Sam's Story

In January 2005, 10-year-old Sam Ihm was diagnosed with a brain tumor while at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Though it was a scary and difficult series of days for Sam and his family, the hospital staff and facilities made them feel as comfortable as possible. And they knew Sam would receive the best care available.

As a way of thanking CMH, and making sure that all other children in similar circumstances are in good hands, Sam and his family created Caps 4 Sam. This non-profit organization will raise funds for Children’s Memorial Hospital through the sale of unique ski caps, and 100% of the profit will be given to the hospital to assist its research and treatment efforts.

The reason for the "4" in "Caps 4 Sam"? Sam is in 4th grade this year and wore number 4 on his basketball team, the Pistons.

Like his brothers, he enjoys sports very much and is looking forward to playing baseball, basketball, and football again soon. He also plays the piano and really enjoys it (even though he doesn't realize it yet).
